Somerville Local First’s Harvest Fest: Not Your Mama’s Non-Profit Gala

Somerville Local First Harvest Fest

I’ve always been a big fan of Fall. Aside from prepping myself for the Fightins’ guaranteed October baseball appearance while Red Sox nation weeps, I’ve been digging the air-conditioning free nights and noshing on the fresh apples from my Enterprise Farms farm share. As a Somerville local I’ve also been bracing myself for one of the coolest events of the season – Somerville Local First’s 2nd annual Harvest Fest on October 9th.

This year it’s Rock n’ Roll vs. Electronic. Get your rock on during the day in the 1st session with a smattering of local bands and foods – a definite must go-to event for any craft beer jugheads (or is that growler heads?) out there. At the night session David Day and the Zebbler Encanti Experience will summon you to cut the floor at the Armory with your dancing shoes. Food, music, lights, fun – all local and all for a great cause to support the hard working folks at SLF.

So what the hell are you waiting for?

Keep the Party Dream Alive Podcast Mix

For stupid reasons out of my control I will not be returning to the Boston airwaves to produce You Can’t Do That on Radio Anymore! this week. So instead I put together a sweet party jams mix of the tunes I intended to play for today’s episode up on my Mixcloud page. Or you can simply just listen in on the nifty embedded player below. Boogie down, minions.

Black El x Durkin: New Hotness in Boston Hip-Hop

Black El x Durkin

I was pretty pumped to hear that former Northeastern classmate turned HOT AS SHIT DJ, Durkin, was producing hip-hop tracks. Durkin will be performing with Black El on Tuesday the 14th at Church Boston (one of my favorite venues for hearing new stuff) in honor of the CD Release of their full length, Color Commentary. It’s refreshing to hear some original hip-hop coming out of this place that isn’t made by some irritating New England Asher Roth wanna be. It’s only 7 bucks, but something tells me you won’t be paying that little scratch for too long with these dudes. As if this night couldn’t be awesome enough BREK.ONE, Ghostdad, and Durkin will all be spinning, so be prepared to dance your ass off to the best freaking DJ’s this city has to offer.
